Manly Launches Anti-Spiking Campaign
16 June 2005
B&T Advertising News
Manly Council has launched a new campaign aimed at educating men that drink spiking is a crime.
The message of the campaign will be delivered in a humorous way in participating pubs via a deodorising drain filter in toilets.
The device by Wizmark, which is attached to urinals, is motion activated and delivers a pre-recorded message with flashing lights: 'Spiked Drinks, it's beyond a joke, it's a crime. Report it'.
Manly Council Safety co-coordinator, Leanne Martin said: "We are always looking for innovative ways to capture people’s attention on issues of community concern. Drink spiking is often committed in licensed venues when men are often the perpetrators and sometimes the victim".
Another aspect of the campaign is peer education which involves volunteers from Manly Youth Council being trained on aspects of spiked drinks. They will survey customers at licensed venues over the weekend over June 24 and 25 about their awareness of the problem and how to avoid it happening to them.
